Stylist Q&A: Q: How do I look taller?
Clothing and proportion makes a huge difference in how we appear
and present to the world. Wearing the right pieces the right way can
even have us looking taller and more slender. If you wish you looked
a little taller but are not sure how to achieve it, this one’s for you!
-
Tonal dressing is your friend
Dressing in the same or similar colours makes the eye travel up and down the body due to similar colours forming a vertical line which will make you look taller. If you are not into dressing in one colour try wearing colours that are close to each other rather than wearing the opposite like black and white on your top and bottom half.
-
Wear clothes that fit well
Well-fitted pieces are especially important; an ill-fitting suit can make you look frumpy and short. A suit that fits you well will visually elongate your frame. Slim, more tailored pieces generally look more flattering than straight cuts or relaxed fits.
-
Consider your accessories
Wear proportionate accessories that suit your frame. If you have slim arms you should avoid really chunky, thick watches as they will make your arms seem even smaller. This might seem minor but the devil is in the detail and accessories can have a big impact on how you look.
-
Smaller patterns are your go-to
Choose smaller patterns for your shirts and tops. Large-scale patterns will overwhelm your frame. It is the case even with vertical stripes which we all know are supposed to be elongating, however, not all stripes are created equal. The thinner stripes will always look more elongating than a shirt with thick vertical stripes.
-
Wear boots
Boots are likely to have a small heel that will actually make you slightly taller. Bonus points for matching your boots to the colour of your pants to visually elongate your legs even further.
Our stylists will help you achieve your desired goal, whether it’s looking taller or something different. Make sure you mention it when completing or updating the style quiz!
